The Finnish Ambassador to Iraq, Matti Lassila, visited Sharya camp and discussed the living conditions of the camp residents.
On August 4, 2022, a delegation from the Embassy of Finland in Iraq visited Sharya camp for IDPs, and met with the camp administration staff.
The aim of the visit was to closely see the conditions of the Yezidis in general and the the IDPs in Sharya camp in particular, and he indicated that Finland, since the beginning of the genocide of the Yezidis, has been supportive and has been providing various logistical, financial and humanitarian assistance to the Yezidis and the IDPs, adding that they will continue their support for them.
Mr. Jalal Lazgin, the manager of Sharya camp, extended his gratitude to Finland, and indicated that the assistance is greatly valued.
During the meeting, the issue of the withdrawal of international organizations from assisting the IDPs was also discussed. Both sides agreed that it has a significant impact on the lives of the IDPs, reducing the volume of the aid provided, demanding the international organizations to continue their humanitarian assistance.
