A delegation of UNCHR and a number of European Union journalists visited Khanke camp in Duhok province on July 12, 2023.
The next day, a delegation of UNAMI led by, Patrick Kiezit, Head of Regional Development Support Office in Erbil visited the camp. Both delegations were received by the camp administration and representatives of Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF).
During the meetings of both delegations, they discussed the situation of the IDPs and refugees living in the camp and their poor living conditions. It was also discussed that most of the international aid organizations have reduced the amount of aid to refugees in the Kurdistan Region. Some have stopped their aid altogether.
It was also emphasized that a roadmap should be found so that the IDPs and refugees can return to their places of origin voluntarily.
