Under the supervision of Mullah Mustafa Barzani, an agreement was signed between the Barzani Charity Foundation, the Ministry of Health, the Swiss Cross Organization and the office of Mullah Mustafa Barzani, to see and identify 1,000 cases of disease annually, in coordination with all four parties. The agreement was signed in the presence of Mullah Mustafa Barzani in Erbil on Saturday, November 2, 2023, which is a step to build stronger relations between international health organizations and the health sector in the Kurdistan Region, to strengthen the experience of local doctors in order to make Erbil a medical center in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. Swiss Cross, in coordination with the Barzani Charity Foundation, will bring medical teams, doctors and experts to see and treat patients in Kurdistan and through a specific program to strengthen the capacity of Kurdish doctors to exchange information. Another goal of the agreement is that patients in the Kurdistan Region will no longer need to travel abroad for treatment and most of the cases will be treated inside the Kurdistan Region.
The medical areas covered by the agreement include:
– Orthopedic surgery, fractures, pelvic and knee joints.
– Cosmetic surgery and rehabilitation after burns.
– Facial and maxillofacial surgery.
– Hand and orthopedic surgeries.
– Corrective surgeries for cases of congenital cleft lip and palate.
– Thoracic surgery after heart and cancer surgery.
According to the agreement, two other areas of surgery will be worked on in the future, namely heart surgery for children and adults, and the establishment of a center for the treatment of breast cancer.
