The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF), in partnership with AwaMedica, has delivered 294 cartons of medicines and essential medical supplies to hospitals and healthcare facilities across Western Kurdistan within the span of a single month.
As part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector and improving access to medical services in Western Kurdistan, BCF distributed medicines and medical supplies to several healthcare institutions at the beginning of June 2026. The assistance included:
60 cartons of medicines and medical supplies to the General Hospital of Derik.
10 cartons to the Medical Center of Chil Agha.
9 cartons to the Medical Center of Deruna Aghe.
40 cartons to the Health Directorate of Al-Hasakah Governorate.
In addition, on 6 July 2026, BCF delivered 75 cartons of medicines and medical supplies to the General Hospital of Al-Hasakah Governorate, where they were officially handed over to the hospital’s management. These distributions, together with other deliveries made during the month, brought the total amount of humanitarian medical assistance to 294 cartons.
These humanitarian and healthcare interventions represent an important step in supporting healthcare facilities and ensuring the availability of essential medicines and medical supplies, enabling hospitals and medical centers to provide better and more effective services to local communities.
Healthcare: A Core Sector of BCF’s Humanitarian Work
Healthcare remains one of the Barzani Charity Foundation’s principal sectors of operation. Through careful planning and close collaboration with donors and humanitarian partners, BCF has consistently expanded its healthcare services both within and beyond the Kurdistan Region.
The Foundation’s healthcare programs focus on promoting physical, mental, and social well-being through a wide range of services, including medical examinations, surgical support, the provision of medicines, deployment of medical professionals, construction and rehabilitation of healthcare facilities, supply of medical equipment, and public health awareness campaigns conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO).
BCF also works on establishing and renovating health centers, organizing awareness campaigns on communicable diseases and preventive healthcare, and operating mobile clinics to reach underserved communities.
Over the years, with the support of international donors, partner countries, and humanitarian organizations, BCF has played a significant role in supplying hospitals and healthcare institutions with essential medical equipment and supplies. These efforts extend beyond the Kurdistan Region, particularly to Western Kurdistan, where the Foundation continues to provide medical services through mobile clinics and the regular delivery of medicines and medical supplies to hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Continued Humanitarian Support for Western Kurdistan
Following the directives of President Barzani and in response to the humanitarian crisis and the displacement of thousands of families in Western Kurdistan, the Barzani Charity Foundation launched a large-scale humanitarian campaign to collect and deliver emergency assistance. The initiative aims to ease the suffering of displaced families and vulnerable communities throughout the region.
Led by Musa Ahmed, President of the Barzani Charity Foundation, BCF’s field teams transported humanitarian convoys through the Semalka Border Crossing into Western Kurdistan. Working around the clock, and in coordination with the Kurdish Red Crescent (Heyva Sor), the teams began distributing assistance at the beginning of 2026. Despite logistical challenges and restrictions on the movement of heavy trucks, the teams transferred relief supplies to smaller vehicles to ensure aid reached beneficiaries as quickly as possible.
BCF’s humanitarian operations have extended far beyond Qamishlo, reaching the cities and towns of Al-Hasakah, Amuda, Girke Lege, Derik, Tirbespiye, Derbasiye, and Afrin, as well as many surrounding villages. Special attention has also been given to displaced families from the Ashrafiyah and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods of Aleppo, who have experienced repeated waves of displacement.
Humanitarian Impact in Western Kurdistan
Within a relatively short period, the Barzani Charity Foundation has achieved the following humanitarian milestones:
415 truckloads of food and non-food humanitarian assistance delivered.
29,070 families benefited from humanitarian assistance.
370,245 liters of diesel fuel distributed to 9,682 families.
29,070 hot meals provided to displaced families.
8,707 individuals received medical treatment and medicines.
1,483 employment opportunities created.
In addition to its regular humanitarian activities, on 25 February 2026, BCF supplied more than three tons of medicines to the National Hospital and hospitals in Amuda. In the food security sector, the Foundation also delivered 200 tons of flour to bakeries in Qamishlo, enabling the production of 3.36 million loaves of bread, which were distributed among local residents. During the holy month of Ramadan, BCF further organized daily Iftar meals for thousands of people in mosques and schools across the region.
Through these sustained humanitarian and healthcare initiatives, the Barzani Charity Foundation continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and strengthening essential public services in Western Kurdistan.
