Ammar al-Hakim, Head of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement, accompanied by a delegation, visited the headquarters of the Barzani Charity Foundation in Erbil on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The delegation was warmly received by Dr. Ibrahim Samin, Deputy President of the Barzani Charity Foundation.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the humanitarian situation in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in general. The head of the visiting delegation praised the Barzani Charity Foundation’s humanitarian work and activities over the years, noting the deep relationship between the two sides and expressing his commitment to its continuation.
He recalled the humanitarian circumstances that followed the rise of ISIS in Iraq in 2014, when large numbers of people were displaced, stating: “When Iraq’s situation deteriorated in 2014 due to ISIS terrorism and large numbers of people were displaced, this humanitarian organization responded promptly and wholeheartedly, coming to their aid.”
Ammar al-Hakim further stated: “We firmly believe in strengthening bilateral relations and coordination, and we are pleased to be ready to exchange our experiences and expertise in the interest of providing greater service.”
For his part, Dr. Ibrahim Samin expressed his pleasure at the visit and called for broader and more comprehensive coordination and cooperation to provide greater attention and support to people in need, particularly internally displaced people and refugees, with the aim of alleviating the hardships they face.
Dr. Ibrahim Samin also provided an overview of the Barzani Charity Foundation’s work and activities in previous years, both within and outside the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. He highlighted, among other initiatives, the distribution of more than USD 83 million to orphans, as well as the various forms of assistance and services provided to displaced people and refugees across the Kurdistan Region.
He also noted that the Foundation annually welcomes tens of thousands of pilgrims during the Arbaeen commemoration of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), providing accommodation, food and refreshments, as well as facilitating their transportation from Erbil to Najaf and Karbala. He further highlighted the Foundation’s various humanitarian assistance programs in Mosul, Nasiriyah, Samawah, Baghdad, Tikrit, Baqubah, Basra, and other cities across Iraq.
Ammar al-Hakim praised the Foundation’s humanitarian efforts and stated: “We hold the efforts and working model of the Barzani Charity Foundation in the highest regard. The existence of a humanitarian organization of this caliber is an undeniable necessity and an important requirement at this stage.”
At the conclusion of the visit, both sides exchanged appreciation shields in recognition of their cooperation and mutual efforts.
