UNHCR High-Level Delegation Expresses Appreciation for the Barzani Charity Foundation in Qamishlo

A high-level delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Syria, headed by James Karanja, UNHCR Field Officer in Qamishlo, visited the Barzani Charity Foundation’s office in the city of Qamishlo on 24 January 2026. The delegation was warmly received by Musa Ahmad, President of the Barzani Charity Foundation.
During the visit, a meeting was held between the UNHCR delegation and the President of the Barzani Charity Foundation, during which they discussed the humanitarian situation in the region and the challenging conditions faced by displaced people.
Both sides emphasized that displaced families are living under extremely difficult circumstances and are in urgent need of greater humanitarian assistance and support.
The delegation later toured the warehouses, kitchens, and aid distribution sites, where the Barzani Charity Foundation’s teams are distributing assistance to displaced persons and to the people of Rojava Kurdistan.
During the visit, members of the UNHCR delegation expressed their admiration and appreciation for the quality of the aid materials, the effective organization of operations, and the field implementation plans, particularly in the areas of food preparation, hygiene, and site management.
At the conclusion of the visit, the UNHCR delegation thanked the Barzani Charity Foundation for its humanitarian and charitable efforts and expressed their best wishes for continued success and further progress in humanitarian work.
