Barzani Charity Foundation Distributes 12 Tons of Qurbani Meat

Musa Ahmed: 135,832 People Will Benefit from Eid al-Adha Projects
In the presence of the President of the Barzani Charity Foundation, the Governor of Erbil, the Director of the Megal Project, the Director of Erbil Slaughterhouse, and a number of media representatives, the Barzani Charity Foundation officially launched its Qurbani Meat Distribution Project on the first day of Eid al-Adha.
One of the Foundation’s key objectives is to preserve and promote religious occasions and traditions while respecting all religions, faiths, and components of society regardless of ethnicity. This commitment to multiculturalism is a valuable legacy rooted in the vision and philosophy of the late Barzani.
During the ceremony, Musa Ahmed, President of the Barzani Charity Foundation, extended his Eid al-Adha greetings to Muslims in Kurdistan and around the world. He noted that, with the support of donors and investors, the Foundation implements its annual Qurbani Meat Project every year. This year, in addition to distributing 12 tons of Qurbani meat, the Foundation is carrying out three additional projects to provide food and non-food assistance. He also expressed his sincere appreciation to all individuals and organizations that contributed to the success of these initiatives.
Musa Ahmed explained that nearly 7,000 families across the Kurdistan Region will benefit from the Qurbani meat distribution on the first day of Eid. In addition, 13,270 food baskets each containing 11 essential food items will be distributed. He further revealed that due to insufficient support provided in the camps by Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement, the Foundation supplied 340 tons of flour, equivalent to one sack for each family, benefiting 6,800 families. Furthermore, more than 325 children, particularly those in vulnerable situations, received Eid clothing. Altogether, 26,570 families, comprising 135,832 individuals, will benefit from the Foundation’s Eid al-Adha projects.
At the same event, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, congratulated the public on Eid al-Adha and emphasized that the Barzani Charity Foundation has consistently demonstrated a remarkable humanitarian commitment through its charitable projects. He praised the Foundation’s significant services to internally displaced persons and refugees living in camps throughout the Kurdistan Region through both support and direct assistance.
The Governor also highlighted the strategic importance of the Megal Project, which was completed in a short period under the supervision of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. He noted that the project contributes substantially to the commercial and economic sectors of the Kurdistan Region. He urged citizens to protect public health and preserve the environment by refraining from slaughtering animals in residential areas and on public streets, and instead utilizing official slaughterhouses. He explained that every animal processed at the slaughterhouse and through the Megal Project undergoes veterinary inspection before slaughter, ensuring the protection of public health and environmental safety.
Salim Nerwayi, Director of the Megal Project, also extended Eid greetings and explained that the Megal Project has been established on nearly one million square meters of land in Erbil. It is the largest livestock project of its kind, with the capacity to produce 300,000 kilograms of meat per day and slaughter more than 3,400 large and small animals within eight hours. He stressed that all operations are conducted in accordance with international standards and Islamic regulations, adding that the project has created more than 1,000 employment opportunities.
