Erbil… End of a chess learning course for orphans

Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) opened a chess course for orphans for a month. At the end of the course, all participants were awarded and the champion of the course was determined.
The Orphans and Widows Unit of Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) Erbil Office opened a chess course for orphans. The course lasted for one month (22\8\2024 to 22\9\2024). Omid Bilal Shakir, the coach of the course, was able to teach 16 children how to play chess and in the end of the course they challenged each other in a championship.
Omid Bilal Shakir, the coach of the course, said: “16 orphan children participated in the chess course. Thanks to the Presidency of Barzani Charity Foundation for their full attention to the project. In the chess tournament, 16 orphan children and youths learned the game and all of them were awarded at the end of the tournament, but the first and second place prizes were somewhat different.” About what future plans will be he said: “We intend to create a team called the (Barzani Chess Team) for orphan children so that they can participate in chess tournaments in the Kurdistan Region”.
Luqman Shuker Hamad, a 17-year-old participant, who won the tournament, thanked the Barzani Charity Foundation and the coach and said: “When I came to participate in the tournament, I didn’t know anything and I didn’t even know how the movements were. Mr. Omid really helped us a lot and I thank him.” He added: “All the participants are my brothers and sisters and I hope we all continue to perform better,”.
Ibrahim Jalal Ismail, a 17-year-old participant, finished second in the tournament. Said: “I was very happy to participate in this course and we learned a lot thanks to our teacher. This game is really good for brain development and I hope Barzani Charity Foundation will open more courses for us.”
Nadia Saber, a mother of two children participating in the course, said: “It is really commendable. I have two children who have learned the game in this course and they are doing very well. Especially my daughter Soma who lost her father when she was only 6. Unfortunately, she was ill for several days and could not participate in the course, otherwise she would have achieved higher levels. In general, the Barzani Charity Foundation has always been a father to children who have been deprived of their father’s affection. So, we thank them always and everywhere.”
On Sunday 22\9\2024, in a special ceremony at the Presidency of Barzani Charity Foundation in Erbil, the final match was held between Luqman Shuker Hamad and Ibrahim Jalal Ismail and Luqman Shuker Hamad won the title of champion. And all participants were awarded.
