The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) and the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at combating narcotic drugs by training a specialized team within the ministry to carry out this vital mission.
On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Dr. Reza Ismail, Director General of Military Medical Affairs at the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs, along with an accompanying delegation, visited the Barzani Charity Foundation in Erbil. They were warmly received by Musa Ahmad, President of the Barzani Charity Foundation.
During the visit, the Memorandum of Understanding on combating narcotic drugs was signed between Dr. Rawasht Rashid, Supervisor of the National Campaign to Combat Narcotic Drugs, and Dr. Reza Ismail, Director General of Military Medical Affairs at the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.
According to the agreement, the specialized staff of the National Campaign to Combat Narcotic Drugs at the Barzani Charity Foundation will provide the necessary training for a team from the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs. The aim is to enable them to actively participate in the national campaign and raise awareness among Peshmerga forces about the dangers of narcotic drugs. Just as the Peshmerga carry the sacred duty of protecting their land and country, they will also work to protect themselves and their fellow citizens from the deadly threat of narcotic drugs.
The National Campaign to Combat Narcotic Drugs is one of the key projects of the Barzani Charity Foundation. Within the framework of this campaign, training and awareness sessions have been organized for religious leaders, teachers, universities, schools, as well as in camps for internally displaced persons and refugees. These activities will continue in the future.
On November 26, 2024, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government and Chairman of the Board of Founders of the Barzani Charity Foundation, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the first rehabilitation center for individuals affected by narcotic drugs in Erbil.
Under his supervision, the Barzani Charity Foundation also officially launched the National Campaign to Combat Narcotic Drugs during a conference held on May 29, 2025, under the slogan “Together Towards a Strong and Healthy Society,” at Divan Hotel in Erbil.
