In the presence of Musa Ahmad, President of the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF), and Alan Hama Saeed, Minister of Education of the Kurdistan Regional Government, two major education projects were announced during a media conference.
The first project involved the renovation of 15 schools, all of which have been fully completed and handed over for use ahead of the new academic year. The second project involves the provision of 170,000 student desks, with implementation set to begin the following day and to be carried out in several phases.
The media conference was held on 22 September 2026 in front of Shafaq Primary School, one of the 15 renovated schools. The event highlighted the importance of cooperation between the Barzani Charity Foundation and the Ministry of Education in improving the learning environment and providing schools with essential facilities and supplies.
Renovation of 15 Schools Across the Kurdistan Region
During the first part of the conference, the Minister of Education highlighted the completion of the renovation and preparation of 15 schools across the three governorates of Erbil, Duhok, and Halabja. The renovated schools have been handed over and prepared for the new academic year.
The project forms part of broader efforts to provide students with a suitable and safe learning environment while strengthening educational infrastructure across the Kurdistan Region.
170,000 Student Desks to Be Provided
The event also marked the announcement of a project to provide 170,000 student desks, combined desks and chairs, to educational institutions across the Kurdistan Region.
According to the Minister of Education, more than 340,000 students across the Region are expected to benefit from the project once it is implemented.
The project is part of the Barzani Charity Foundation’s ongoing efforts to support the education sector and provide schools with essential infrastructure and supplies. According to the Foundation’s President, efforts have been made to ensure that the project is implemented according to appropriate quality standards.
42 Projects and 2,033 Educational Activities
During the conference, Musa Ahmad, President of the Barzani Charity Foundation, also highlighted the scale of the Foundation’s work in the education sector.
According to figures presented by the Foundation’s President, 2,033 educational activities have been carried out across Kurdistan, alongside the implementation of 42 educational projects.
Together, these projects and activities have benefited 486,680 people, with a total expenditure of IQD 19,099,747,000.
Of this amount, IQD 14,325,000,000 was provided by organizations and partners from outside the Kurdistan Region, reflecting the Foundation’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships and mobilize financial resources in support of education projects across Kurdistan.
Supporting Teachers and Education Personnel
The Minister of Education also highlighted the Barzani Charity Foundation’s role in training and developing the capacities of education personnel, noting that the Foundation has contributed to the training of 1,515 teachers and Ministry of Education employees.
He further referred to the Foundation’s various forms of support in areas including the renovation and construction of schools, the provision of solar-powered electricity systems, and the supply of educational materials and other essential needs for students and schools.
Musa Ahmad: Education Is a Key Area of the Foundation’s Work
In his remarks to media representatives and attendees, Musa Ahmad, President of the Barzani Charity Foundation, said that the Foundation takes pride in its continued efforts to serve the community and support important areas of life, particularly education.
He noted that while the Barzani Charity Foundation is often recognized for its humanitarian work during difficult circumstances and natural or human-made disasters, education has been one of the Foundation’s core areas of work since its establishment.
Musa Ahmad also stated that through its educational projects and activities, the Foundation has been able to mobilize financial resources for education initiatives in cooperation with international organizations, institutions, and partner countries.
Ministry of Education Thanks the Barzani Charity Foundation
During his remarks, the Minister of Education expressed his appreciation, on behalf of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Ministry of Education, to the Barzani Charity Foundation, its President Musa Ahmad, volunteers, and partners for their support and assistance to the Ministry, schools, and the education sector across the Kurdistan Region.
This cooperation comes as the Ministry of Education continues its efforts to improve learning environments and strengthen educational infrastructure throughout the Kurdistan Region.
Students Express Their Appreciation
At the conclusion of the event, a student from Shafaq Primary School, speaking on behalf of the school’s students, expressed appreciation to the Barzani Charity Foundation for the services and improvements provided to their school.
The student also pledged that the students would help keep their school clean, well-maintained, and protected.
