The Barzani Charity Foundation has always regarded the protection of clean air as a humanitarian and social responsibility. On International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, the principle of “A Shared Responsibility for Healthier Lives” deserves our full commitment, and everyone must work together to uphold it.
Every year on September 7, countries around the world observe the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies. The day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2019 as the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, with annual observances beginning in 2020.
The Barzani Charity Foundation believes that this occasion should serve as an opportunity to raise awareness of the dangers of air pollution and encourage individuals and institutions to take action to improve air quality and protect human health and the environment.
Clean air is one of the most fundamental necessities of life and a crucial foundation for protecting human health and maintaining a healthy environment. With the expansion of urbanization, the growing number of vehicles, factories and industrial activities, as well as the burning of harmful materials, air pollution has become one of the greatest threats to human life, endangering the health of humans, animals, birds, plants, and all living organisms.
On the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, the importance of protecting air quality and reducing the causes of environmental pollution should serve as a call to action for individuals and institutions to work together toward a cleaner environment and a healthier future.
As a humanitarian and social organization, the Barzani Charity Foundation believes that serving humanity is not limited to providing basic necessities. Protecting the environment and ensuring a clean and healthy living environment are also essential components of social responsibility.
From this perspective, the Barzani Charity Foundation, through its humanitarian and social activities, places significant emphasis on promoting environmental awareness and supporting efforts to protect the environment. A clean environment is a fundamental foundation for a healthy society and a better future for generations to come.
Protecting clean air is a shared responsibility, and fulfilling this responsibility begins with small but meaningful steps, such as reducing sources of air pollution, protecting forests and green spaces, increasing vegetation and tree cover, and raising public awareness.
On September 7, we should all renew our commitment to protecting the environment and clean air, because access to clean air is a fundamental right of every human being. Protecting it is a collective responsibility, and achieving this goal requires dedicated plans and projects.
The Barzani Charity Foundation will continue to support all efforts and initiatives aimed at protecting people and the environment and building a better future for society. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP):
99% of the world’s population lives in places where air quality exceeds WHO guideline limits.
6.7 million premature deaths each year are associated with exposure to outdoor and household air pollution.
Approximately 2.4 billion people use polluting fuels for cooking and heating.
Without decisive action, premature deaths associated with outdoor air pollution could increase by more than 50% by 2050.
Protecting clean air is not the responsibility of one individual, organization, or government alone. It is a shared responsibility that requires collective action today to safeguard human health, protect the environment, and ensure a healthier and more sustainable future for generations to come.
