On November 14, 2022, the Chatham House held its annual ‘Iraq Initiative Conference 2022’ in London. The conference was attended by several Iraqi, European and American policymakers, analysts, academics, and activists aimed at examining the past year’s developments in Iraq and explore the potential trajectory of the country.
The Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) was the only Iraqi and Kurdish charity to participate in the conference. In this conference, the BCF representative in Europe and US, Mr. Awat Mustafa participated in two different panels in which he discussed and raised two issues on water security, security and protection of human aspects.
The issues raised by the BCF representative were further discussed by the panelists, consisting of Krikor Der-Hagopian, Foreign Affairs Advisor to Iraqi Prime Minister, Alistair Burt, Former Minister for the Middle East and North Africa at UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Jennifer Gavito, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs at US Department of State, who all elaborated on the issues.
This is the first time the BCF was invited to the Chatham House annual conference in London, to better understand Iraq’s affairs in general and the political and humanitarian situation.
The BCF will play a greater role in international conferences and seminars in the framework of internationalization of humanitarian affairs and social development and conveying the true voice of the Kurdistan Region.
