A high-level German delegation visits Yezidi IDPs in Sharia camp

A German delegation, consisting of Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and Werner Gatzer, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance, accompanied by the German Ambassador to Iraq, visited Sharia camp on May 2, 2023 in Duhok province, to follow up with the living conditions of the displaced Yezidis living in the camp. 

The delegation was received by the camp administration and representatives of the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF).

Meanwhile, representatives of UNICEF, KFW and the KRG Director of Cultural Monitoring were present along with the delegation.

After being updated about the situation of the IDPs and the services provided, the German delegation discussed their issues and reiterated Germany’s support to improve their living conditions.

Sharya camp is located in Duhok province and is populated by Yezidi Kurds from Sinjar. The BCF manages the camp and 34 others. Of these camps, 25 are for IDPs and 10 for refugees. A total of 261,151 IDPs and refugees are living in those camps.
