On the recommendation of Prime Minister His Excellency (Masrour Barzani), the foundation stone of Drug Rehabilitation Center, which will be built by the Barzani Charity Foundation and the American (LDS) Organization will be laid.
The foundation stone laying ceremony of the “Drug Rehabilitation Center” was held in Erbil on 26/11/2024 in the presence of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, who is also the Chairman of the Founding Board of Barzani Charity Foundation. In the ceremony, which was attended by the head of the American (LDS) Church in the Middle East and a number of government officials and international organizations, Mr. Musa Ahmad, President of Barzani Charity Foundation, delivered a speech and said that it is a pride that the foundation stone of the Drug Rehabilitation Center in the Kurdistan Region is being laid especially after President Barzani In his speech at the (MEPS) conference that was held at the American University in Duhok, stressed that the spread of drugs in the region is more dangerous than anything else.”
In another part of his speech, the President of Barzani Charity Foundation said that (LDS Foundation) has been working with Barzani Charity Foundation for 10 years and 36 joint projects have been implemented during this period. He thanked the (LDS) for their support.
Then Dr. Rawsht Rashid, head of the drug rehabilitation project at Barzani Charity Foundation, spoke about the global data and information about drug addicts and the details of their rehabilitation. He said: according to UNODC statistics, Iraq has become one of the most dangerous countries in drug trafficking in the region, between Asia, Africa and Europe, and some armed groups are involved in this crime and even inside Iraq for their own financial gain they even produce drugs.
“The challenges of drugs are everywhere,” said Elder Parrella, head of the (LDS) Church in the Middle East. “When someone becomes addicted, it is a gift that God gives to everyone is agency and control of self, and when someone gets addicted that’s when they lose hope and agency which is a reason why we want to build a center like this because when they lose hope that even affects their families and those who have lost hope. We want to give them hope and agency.”
Then, His Excellency Masrour Barzani delivered a speech and welcomed the participants, highlighted the dangers of the spread of drugs in society and congratulated the Barzani Charity Foundation and (LDS) organization for establishing a rehabilitation center for drug addicts. And he wished that the center can be completed in the mentioned time and put into service for treating Drug infected and addicted people.
In the same ceremony, a video about the Drug Rehabilitation Center and its departments was shown to the audience.
In the final part of the ceremony, the foundation stone of the project was laid by His Excellency Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Musa Ahmad, President of Barzani Charity Foundation and Elder Parrella, Head of the American (LDS) Church in the Middle East.
