On May 19–20, 2025, Awat Mustafa, Member of the Executive Board of the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) and the Foundation’s Representative in Europe, took part in the European Union Humanitarian Forum held in Brussels.
The EU Humanitarian Forum is a leading platform where political leaders and global development experts gather annually to address pressing humanitarian challenges worldwide. This year, the Barzani Charity Foundation received an official invitation to participate in the event.
Alongside attending the forum sessions, BCF’s representative held a series of meetings with European Union officials and representatives from international humanitarian organizations. The discussions highlighted the Kurdistan Region’s inclusive humanitarian approach, which plays a vital role in promoting coexistence and laying the groundwork for lasting peace in the region.
The European Union and various humanitarian actors acknowledged the significance of BCF’s ongoing efforts in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The Foundation’s consistent support for refugees in Kurdistan, as well as its continued humanitarian aid to Syria, Rojava (West Kurdistan), and beyond, has earned it recognition as a key international humanitarian actor in the Middle East.
During his visit to Brussels, Mr. Mustafa also met with Dr. Dilawar Azhgayi, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Representative to the EU. He expressed his appreciation for Dr. Azhgayi’s diplomatic work and support for Kurdistan’s interests in Europe.
