The Barzani Charity Foundation Was a Lifeline During the Hard Days of Rojava Kurdistan

Following the directives and recommendations of Masoud Barzani, the Barzani Charity Foundation launched a large-scale humanitarian campaign in response to the unrest and the displacement of thousands of families in Rojava Kurdistan. This national effort aimed to ease the suffering and heavy burdens faced by displaced families and local residents alike.
Under the supervision of Musa Ahmad, President of the Barzani Charity Foundation, along with field teams on the ground, aid convoys reached Rojava Kurdistan through the “Semalka” border crossing. Working tirelessly day and night, the teams began distributing assistance on 22/1/2026 in coordination with the Kurdish Red Crescent (Heyva Sor). Despite narrow roads and logistical challenges that hindered the movement of large trucks, the teams remained committed and transferred supplies into smaller vehicles to ensure rapid delivery to those in need.
The Foundation’s humanitarian services were not limited to Qamishlo alone, but also extended to the cities and towns of Hasakah, Amuda, Girkê Legê, Dêrik, Tirbespiyê, Dêrbasiyê, and Afrin, as well as their surrounding villages. Special attention was given to displaced residents from the Ashrafiyah and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods in Aleppo, many of whom had been displaced multiple times.
Within a relatively short period, the Barzani Charity Foundation achieved the following humanitarian milestones:
415 truckloads of food and non-food humanitarian aid delivered.
29,070 families benefited from humanitarian assistance.
370,245 liters of fuel (diesel) distributed to 9,682 families.
29,070 hot meals provided to displaced families.
8,707 individuals benefited from medical treatment and medication.
1,483 people were provided with job opportunities.
In addition to daily humanitarian support, on 25/2/2026 more than three tons of medicine were delivered to the National Hospital and hospitals in Amuda. In the food sector, 200 tons of flour were supplied to bakeries in Qamishlo, resulting in the production and distribution of 3,360,000 loaves of bread to residents. Furthermore, during the holy month of Ramadan, iftar meals were prepared for thousands of people in mosques and schools.
This humanitarian campaign, which received significant international attention, was made possible through the generosity of the people of the Kurdistan Region — from wealthy donors to children who even donated their personal savings.
The Barzani Charity Foundation reaffirms its commitment to the beloved people of Rojava Kurdistan and vows to continue providing humanitarian assistance and delivering aid convoys until stability is restored and life returns to normal once again.
