10.5 Tons of Medical Equipment and 7,100 Food Parcels Will be Provided

On September 12, 2021, in a press conference in the BCF’s headquarters based in Erbil, the BCF in collaboration with Society for Relief announces two projects. The first project is to provide 10.5 tones of medical equipment donated by the Kuwait Society for Relief, purchased in Germany and handed over by the BCF to the KRG ministry of health and the other project is to distribute 7,100 food parcels to vulnerable families in the cities of (Kirkuk, Nineveh, Erbil, Diyala, Duhok, Sulaymaniyah, Halabja, Baghdad). The conference was attended by the President of the BCF Musa Ahmad, Governor of Erbil Omed Khoshnaw, Kuwait’s Consul General to the Kurdistan Region Dr. Omar Ahmad Al-Kanderi, Minister of Health Dr. Saman Barzinji.

The President of the BCF Musa Ahmad delivered the opening speech at the press conference and shed light on the essential role of the State of Kuwait in helping internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, and local populations in need.

“We are gathered to announce two important projects sponsored by the Society for Relief, including distribution of 7,100 food parcels across 7 provinces in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and handover medical supplies with the total of 1 million euros to the KRG ministry of health,” said the President of the BCF.

Kuwait’s Consul General to the Kurdistan Region Dr. Omar Ahmad Al-Kanderi stated, “We appreciate the help from the BCF and Kurdistan Regional Government for their continued cooperation and support to implement our projects and benefit local populations, IDPs, and refugees, inside the camps. We see it as our duty, as neighbours of Iraq, to help in the health sector, particularly after the pandemic Covid-19 and we will continue providing medical equipment and supplies.”

The Minister of Health Dr. Saman Barzinji reaffirmed the importance of such collaborations between the KRG and the State of Kuwait, “We want to extend our appreciation to the State of Kuwait and the BCF for providing tones of medical equipment and assistance to the KRG ministry of health.”

“The health sector is facing many challenges as the pandemic continues. We need more help like medical equipment and medication to reduce the load on the hospitals,” the Minister of Health Dr. Saman Barzinji added.

The Governor of Erbil Omed Khoshnaw presented a speech, “The State of Kuwait has a long-standing friendship with the Kurdistan Region. Today, the State of Kuwait and Consulate General of the State of Kuwait in Erbil provide food and medical assistance to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), we do appreciate their brotherhood and support. KRG is in great need of such assistance, particularly in the field of health.”
