Musa Ahmad: The humanitarian aspect should not be integrated with any political or national issue

Musa Ahmad, President of Barzani Charity Foundation, at a special panel held at the Erbil International Book Fair. talks about the projects, work and activities of the Barzani Charity Foundation and emphasizes that the humanitarian aspect should not be mixed with any political or national issues, and describes the book fair as a sacred place.
The 17th International Book Fair was opened in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, on April 19, 2025. Barzani Charity Foundation participated with several great books. On the last day of the exhibition, a special panel entitled “Prospects of Charity Work in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the Region” was held and Mr. Musa Ahmad the president of the Barzani Charity Foundation participated. The President of Barzani Charity Foundation thanked the organizers of the panel (Ministry of Culture, Fakhri Karim and Mada Publishing House). He also stressed that the Barzani Charity Foundation represents the humanitarian case in the Kurdistan Region and called it “a reflection of the beautiful thoughts of the immortal Barzani, especially for coexistence, humanitarian cooperation and environmentalism”. “We have made great efforts to establish good coordination between all sections of society, Kurdistan donors and donor countries, especially for those in need of humanitarian services,” he said.
The President of Barzani Charity Foundation, in his speech and in response to the questions of the panelist (Karzan Nuri, member of the Executive Board of Barzani Charity Foundation), said: “The humanitarian aspect in Kurdistan should not be mixed with any political or national issues,”. He also added: “Charity work has always been an important issue in the culture of our society They have always talked about Kurdish culture and generosity.” “We have come to organize this humanitarian culture with donors and this is very difficult because it requires trust first of all,” he said. He said that Barzani Charity Foundation has gained trust inside and outside the Kurdistan Region. And has received work permits in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, the UK and the United States. Efforts to obtain work permits in Syria, Turkey and Germany are in the final stages.
The head of the Barzani Charity Foundation said that the Barzani Charity Foundation runs 28 refugee camps in the Kurdistan Region. He added that most of the humanitarian organizations in Kurdistan, Iraq and the region have stopped their aid. Especially after the latest decision of the US President (Donald Trump), many organizations have stopped their projects completely.
In his speech, the President of Barzani Charity Foundation, in another topic of his speech, mentioned the influx of nearly two million refugees to the Kurdistan Region, and thanked the Kurdistan donors and international humanitarian organizations for their assistance and praised the role of Barzani Charity Foundation teams in the field of humanitarian services. That In 45 days, 9,900,000 hot, high-quality meals were provided to the refugees, without a single person contracting an epidemic or disease.
The president of the Barzani Charity Foundation pointed out that they pay full attention to the training and self-education of the agency’s employees and are constantly encouraged not to lag behind the progress. He considered reading books as a key to success. He called the book fair a holy place and said that the employees of the Barzani Charity Foundation have been encouraged to visit the exhibition. And he said: “There is still no substitute for books for self-education”.
Narmin Mullazadeh, Head of Data and Information Department of Barzani Charity Foundation, presented the data of the work and activities of Barzani Charity Foundation in the past 19 years. She added that Barzani Charity Foundation started its activities in 2005 with 15 employees and currently has 1,004 employees (301 female and 703 male). According to her, Barzani Charity Foundation has provided humanitarian services in 10 different sectors in 13 different countries for 19 years.
