Emergency assistance provided by the Barzani Charity Foundation to displaced people from Aleppo in Afrin during a seven-day emergency response period.

The Afrin Office of the Barzani Charity Foundation, during the period from 9 January 2026 to the morning of 16 January 2026 a total of seven consecutive days, provided food and non-food assistance to 18,490 displaced people from Aleppo in Afrin and its surrounding areas.
The types of food and non-food assistance distributed, along with the number of beneficiaries, were as follows:
Hot meals (rice, meat, chickpeas, lentils, bread, and water): 12,170 people
Fast food meals (bread, dates, juice, biscuits, jam, water, etc.): 3,360 people
Food baskets (rice, bulgur, oil, sugar, beans, molasses, vermicelli, salt, etc.): 1,275 people
Health and hygiene kits: 1,875 people
Clothing assistance: 278 people
Psychological support: 681 children
Medical examinations and treatment: 730 people
In addition, 721 non-food aid items were distributed to displaced people from Aleppo who were residing along the Afrin border. These non-food items included blankets, mattresses, kitchen sets, and plastic sheets. Furthermore, 3,000 hot meals and fast food baskets were distributed daily.
On 13 January 2026, through 15 buses, more than 750 people voluntarily returned to their homes in Aleppo. The buses were provided by the Afrin Local Administration.
Following attacks by Syrian army forces, Kurdish residents of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiya neighborhoods in Aleppo fled through several crossings toward the Afrin border.
In its activity report, the Afrin Office of the Barzani Charity Foundation revealed based on data from the Social Affairs Directorate in Afrin, that more than 27,750 families (138,750 individuals) sought refuge in the villages and towns along the Afrin border.
