Barzani Charity Foundation will continue to provide electricity to schools through solar energy

The project of providing electricity (through solar energy) to 10 schools in Duhok province was announced in the presence of the President of Barzani Charity Foundation, the Minister of Education, the Governor of Duhok and a number of journalists.
In the presence of Musa Ahmad, President of Barzani Charity Foundation, Dr. Alan Hama Saeed, Minister of Education of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Ali Tatar, Governor of Duhok and a number of governmental and non-governmental figures and journalists, on July 28, 2025 and in a press conference held in Duhok, Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) has announced the launch of a solar electricity project for 10 schools in Duhok province. The project is being implemented by Barzani Charity Foundation in coordination with American LDS Charities and The Stirling Foundation.
In the beginning, Dr. Alan Hama Saeed, Minister of Education of the Kurdistan Regional Government, delivered a speech and pointed out that the Barzani Charity Foundation has supported the Ministry of Education in many areas, which he briefly mentioned in several points: “First, it has built dozens of school buildings in cities and towns and offered them to the public sector. Second, it has renovated hundreds of schools in the Kurdistan Region and outside the Kurdistan Region, especially in Kirkuk. Third, Barzani Charity Foundation has built hundreds of new classrooms for schools, of which 140 were built last year (2024), most of them in Garmian. Fourth, Barzani Charity Foundation has played an important role in the campaign to return students to school, which so far, we have been able to return 33 thousand 324 students to school, our main partner was Barzani Charity Foundation.
The minister also mentioned that the Barzani Charity Foundation will serve in the field of education in another project again in which there are 25 schools in Halabja, Erbil and Duhok provinces that will be provided with solar energy and last year 10 schools were supplied with solar electricity, bringing the total to 35 schools.” According to the Ministry of Education, 120 schools in the Kurdistan Region have been provided with solar electricity.
Dr. Alan Hama Saeed, at the end of his speech, while thanking the Barzani Charity Foundation and the teams participating in the project, stressed that the project considers multi-composition and the designation of schools to provide solar energy through electricity. And this project is not only for the Kurdish school as he mentioned that the project began with a school where It was Syriac and the project includes a Turkmen language school.
Then, Musa Ahmad, President of Barzani Charity Foundation, welcomed the participants and said that Barzani Charity Foundation has paid great attention to the education sector since its establishment. He called it a matter of pride that the Barzani Charity Foundation has been able to provide some of the needs of the education sector with the help of its partners. The President of Barzani Charity Foundation appreciated the role of LDS and The Stirling Foundation in their assistance to the project. He attributed the continued work of the two organizations to the establishment of strong trust and stressed that Barzani Charity Foundation has become a reliable bridge between donors International humanitarian organizations, investors, the Kurdish donors and people in need of help. He added that solar energy will be provided to 10 schools in Duhok province and similar projects will be implemented in other provinces.
Then, Ali Tatar, the governor of Duhok, delivered a speech and first thanked the Barzani Charity Foundation on behalf of the people of Duhok and said that an hour before the conference they announced another project. (He meant the project that was to provide carpets for mosques in Duhok province and Zakho autonomous administration). He stressed that both are educational centers and mosques and schools have an influential role in education. He expressed his pleasure that the project of providing solar energy through electricity for schools, like all other projects of the Barzani Charity Foundation will be carried out without differentiations. He stressed that Barzani Charity Foundation has proved itself as an efficient and professional organization not only in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, but also in many other places and countries. He hoped that the projects will continue and all schools in Kurdistan will have electricity through solar energy without differentiation.
